Similar in Boston and suburbs.... I was there about seventeen years ago, on an otherwise empty platform waiting for a heavy rail commuter to downtown with 5 friends, and an express came through a bit before..... and I mean express. Same track, at the platform, and it just screamed through. No slowing. If I had not been holding the steps' handrail to watch it, about 10 feet back, I would have been bowled over. No apologies, and no expectation of other than personal responsibility for anyone on that platform (with which I have no problem). A really good view of the train. No, I do not recall the train type; I was there for other reasons. Thanks for the memory prompt.
