New potential delays to Montreal's Blue Line Metro expansion

Just caught this in the news. IT would seem like the Galleries d'Anjou shopping mall is not accepting the expropriation that will occur on their land and property to allow the Metro expansion to be built.

The mall is claiming that the build would result in:

  • The splitting of the mall's property in two.
  • The loss of some 2,000 parking spaces.
  • The demolition of several restaurants and businesses, leading to the loss of hundreds of jobs.
  • The permanent and irreversible alteration of the mall which would prevent any future development.

The Blue line would end in the parking lot of the mall, which would include a large bus station and a 1200 spot park and ride, all on the current mall property.
