June 26, 20197 yr Mod Squad With the arrival of the Confederation Line, Ottawa is starting to develop an underground city, much like what has been built in Montreal, by means of the connections established by the Metro. In Montreal, the RESO is an underground network of passageways and corridors that link many buildings and Metro stations all across the core downtown district. With the new Confederation Line in Ottawa, there are new connections being made. For example: The integrated station of Rideau, connects to CF Rideau Centre, and the Scotiabank building across at Rideau and William Street. Parliament station connects to the Sunlife Financial Centre and 155 Queen (Heritage Building). Lyon connects to Place de Ville and it's underground concourse. This is already a great start, but so much more is possible in the years to come. With plenty of buildings downtown being renovated, upgraded or changing ownership, there is great potential for more connectivity underground and as a result, additional indoor entrances to the O-Train stations. What are your thoughts, predictions, or rumors you are hearing out in the city? What will be next?
June 26, 20197 yr Good topic idea. I would like to see the following buildings linked in the future downtown to the respective stations. Rideau: Parliament: World Exchange Plaza, Connection to Sparks Street (although I think there will be a passthrough at ground level to the Winners entrance doors). Lyon: Constitution Square, Minto Place, 240 Sparks (C.D. Howe Building), Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites (and the adjoining office building). While some should have a direct connection to the O-Train station, it would be acceptable for buildings that do have a connection to integrate a passageway (either underground or elevated walkway like Calgary's +15 network) to daisy chain multiple nearby buildings together. In fact, for this to work, it would have to be operated much as it is in Montreal, with the access and passageways still accessible after the buildings close at night. I'm sure an ultimate closing hour would be set to avoid stragglers or sleep overs but we could use a local example of Rideau Centre to help establish such a network. Even when the shopping centre is closed, it is a pedestrian right of way and the access through the mall is maintained for several hours before and after the stores open and close.
October 14, 20197 yr I would like to see Lincoln Fields, Baseline and Bayshore with Phase II all become Hubs for the city. It would really be nice
