December 8, 20205 yr The project of the Métro in Montréal has had a very long saga before becoming reality. English: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montreal_Metro French: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Métro_de_Montréal But a subway system (Montréal's Métro is still the only entirely underground rapid transit in Canada) is always a work in progress. Line 3, the Red Line: English: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Line_(Montreal_Metro) French: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ligne_3_(métro_de_Montréal) Line 6: The surface line - English: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Line_6_(Montreal_Metro) French: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ligne_6_(métro_de_Montréal) Line 7: The White Line - English: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Line_(Montreal_Metro) French: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ligne_7_(métro_de_Montréal) I thought I read somewhere that the Pink Line would be given Number 7... but I cannot trace it anywhere. If it surfaces I'll post it on this Forum. There is certainly a logic in skipping line numbers that have been abandoned, but I think that at the end of the day, it is the users that have to be taken into consideration. Few people remember these projects and when a new line is added, following the numerical order makes more sense for the people using the system. It seems there will never be a Line 3 or a Line 6 in Montréal; stay tuned for a line 7.
December 8, 20205 yr Line 3 is essentially the REM, so it would be better to return the number to the Metro Line basket. I could see Line 6 built as a REM or Metro Line within the next few decades depending on political will. Line 8 is currently planned as a tramway by the CAQ as part of a deal with Projet Montreal to give up transit funding to Quebec City.
