An interesting placement, and looking both north and south from that site, it does make sense for people already living within walking distance.

Actually, I am one of the lucky people who will be walking distance from the new Convent Glen station. It is one of the main reasons we bought in this area, knowing the plan for the station.

It will be a 12 minute walk for me, which I timed once (or 15 minutes according to Google Maps). For me, that puts it solidly in the "local stop" category, including during winter, and taking a slightly closer local bus to access a train station doesn't feel at all worthwhile, given the added connection.

Before this, I lived near Blair but the station was about a 20 minute walk away (23 minutes by Google). That was just far enough that I often took the local bus either leaving or coming back home, especially in Winter (Route 12 was also frequent and I had the 24 as a backup). It was great that walking was an option however, especially outside of peak periods.

There is also some density near Convent Glen, in the form of stacked townhomes, townhouses, smaller standalone houses and seniors residences. Plus, there are a lot of businesses and restaurants just South of the station along St. Joseph that can eventually attract train users from inside and outside Orleans.

Overall, I am very excited and it is one of the reasons I am so happy to be starting my family in Northwestern Orleans compared to other parts of the city! As a person who used to dream only of living in a central urban neighbourhood, being walking distance from the train and only 30 minutes away makes me feel so much closer to it all!

That's fantastic. Good for you. It is a nice calm area, only further enhanced by the proximity to the station. Win-Win for everyone in the community. Of all the Orleans stations, this one will serve the most people within walking distance with the most housing on both sides of the highway of all.

Also a big improvement where before (and currently) there is no Transitway service on this overpass (as it has no ramps). So it will be a great upgrade and one I find is about time!

I absolutely agree that it will be a big transit upgrade. I knew coming here that we wouldn't be on the spine of the Transitway in the first few years, but bus options to Blair were good enough to be comfortable with for a few years before the expansion was completed.

It was that exciting future that I saw when I considered this as a neighbourhood to move to.

Convent Glen Station

Station excavation starts September 2021 while construction on the future Convent Glen Station will start in October 2021 with a completion anticipated in spring 2023. The station will be built at-grade with access to Orléans Boulevard.

The Orléans Boulevard bridge is being reconfigured to allow bi-directional cycle tracks, a MUP, and dedicated bus lanes. Vehicular lanes over the bridge will be reduced to one lane each direction.
