August 7, 20206 yr Mod Squad I honestly prefer the proposed name, which IMO is more meaningful than Dominion. Gives a better idea of the general vicinity, and recognizes the heritage of the area. Kìchì Sìbì is one of those stations it seems that does not get that much attention because it will not be as high volume as others, however it is going to be, IMO one important for people looking to go towards the SJAM for a stroll or bike ride, which makes the MUP connection very important. I look forward to taking my bike and go for a ride from there once it opens!
August 7, 20206 yr I also like the name, but I propose they rename the lookout to match the spelling, as well as the beach. At the moment, it's just a glorified station with two bus shelters, but I believe as a full metro station with a more prominent name (with more emphasis on its surrounding, i.e. Westbro Village, the river and the beach), ridership might increase significantly.
October 20, 20215 yr Ah, Dominion Station. Opened in November 1999, you're correct on your idea that Dominion station was indeed an afterthought, hence only given the bus shelters as opposed to transitway red shelters (though, they could have constructed red shelters given they had already built new ones for Pleasant Park Station in 1996). Anywho, here's my honest thought on this name post LRT. First off let me get the unpopular politically incorrect opinion out of the way; while this is named after the ward in which it resides, the station is only being named the way it is to virtue signal. My theory is that in todays political climate, current Dominion Station and adjacent Dominion Ave. basically associate that term with residentials schools and that stuff, so basically they're trying to dissociate with the term "Dominion" to something of a more a reconciliation type of naming. So basically, they're pulling a Lycee Claudel where they're not naming the station after the adjacent road, but rather the major point of interest/area its in. Is that far fetched? I personally don't think so. Other than confusing a lot of people, I think it's an okay name. Would prefer to keep it simple and just call it after the road it's named after, but I'm sure the city already had their minds made up when they put up their "station renaming consultations" awhile back.
